EVIDENCE OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN GHANA

Ghana Meteorological Agency’s climate data observed over a forty–year period from 1960 – 2000, indicate a progressive and discernible rise in temperature and a concomitant decrease in rainfall in all agro-ecological zones in the country (EPA 2010)
.

Climate change scenarios based on the forty- year observed data also indicate future temperature rise on the average of about 0.6C, 2.0C and 3.9C by the year 2020, 2050, and 2080 respectively, with rainfall predicted to decrease on average by 2.8%, 10.9% and 18.6% by 2020, 2050, 2080 respectively in all agro-ecological zones (EPA 2010)

Again, scenarios of sea level changes  with respective to 1990 mean predicts an average rise of 5.8cm, 16.5cm and 34.5cm by 2020, 2050 and 2080 respectively.
